Custom Figure stands

So I've bought a few extra hatless Indy heads from Toy Anxiety since they first started carrying them. I've since made a Deckard and Han..
Anyway, the guy downstairs was doing some sort of renovation and had leftover wood sitting on the porch so I slapped some sheet styrene and some parts from my collection of crap for greeblies. Cannibalized a sideshow figure stand and after some paint and weathering..

I'm digging this stand

Great work. It shows what imagination and craftsmanship can do without spending big bucks.
If Sideshow made this it would cost $80

Re: Custom Millenium Falcon stand for my Han Solo

Thanks guys.
For the paint-job, I did a base-coat of white and then used three shades of gray to give it the "feel" of the falcon, the last of which was a misting of light aircraft gray.
So on the weathering, obviously, for the oil leaks or whatever, I used thinned down black paint in several layers. I added light gray (slate gray to be precise) streaks in various locations to emulate water stains as if it had sat out too long or something. For the rust spots, I actually use rust I have a small container that I deliberately rusted some steel wool in and ground it down into a fine powder. I dip my fingertip or a q-tip (cotton swab) into the rust and carefully work it into the paint. Doesn't take much effort. In some areas I applied superglue and baking soda (for a crusty look) which I then painted rust brown and surrounded with real rust.. I sealed it with a flat clear cote and called it done.

Re: Custom Millenium Falcon stand for my Han Solo

Yeah, great idea.
You seem to be modding your Solo figure to that publicity photo of Ford when his hair was alot shorter than it was for the movie (same pose as well)
Ive always been found of the shorter hair look myself.

Re: Custom Millenium Falcon stand for my Han Solo

I love it, but my only gripe is with the black section that comes up behind him. I don't know if painting it white also would make it stand out more, or make it blend in better with the base? Maybe on the next one (there is another Han back there) you can use a clear part back there, they sell clear styrene rod that would work really well.
This is so much better than the plain stands they provide, simply brilliant!

That is fantastic, really well done. The painting on it is perfect. I wish you had snapped some photos of the build though.

Re: Custom Millenium Falcon stand for my Han Solo

yeah, I should have.. next time I will.
I plan to do some more custom stands in the near future so I'll do progress pics on those. The Falcon one here was literally an evening project. The longest thing was waiting in between spray paint coats :P

Re: Custom Millenium Falcon stand for my Han Solo

Really cool. I kicked around the idea of the ramp, cockpit or maybe a landing strut, but they're all way too big. I never even thought of a hull section. This is a great idea! Well done!

Re: Custom Figure stands

I started a new, generic stand. It's not really (necessarily) Sci-Fi or anything but it works.
My wife says it should be a bathroom or subway station lol

I started with two pieces of my neighbor's scrap wood

Skinned them using tv dinner boxes (trying to save styrene/going for a rougher finish)

I gave it a base-coat with white Kilz paint and added sand to the back wall (for texture)

Started making floor tiles.. 3/4 inch by 3/4 inch

tiled the floor

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/P1070995.jpg

Hit it with Primer

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/P1070998.jpg
masked areas off that I wanted to give the appearance of bare concrete and sprayed it white

Started weathering..

Re: Custom Figure stands

man, no.. I should have taken some but it was one of those things where I started and didn't think to stop and take pics until it was done.
I'll be documenting any further stands or whatever that I do though.

Re: Custom Figure stands

those are nice! the Han Solo really goes well with that first photo. I think someone needs to make more diorama looking display stands.

come post them up at - 3 of my co-workers are big SW buffs, they would dig these.

Re: Custom Figure stands

I had someone ask about me casting up copies on Sideshow Freaks and while I don't have the resources/knowhow, I did decide to make him a copy since I had JUST enough to make one more. (I know, sorry guys..) Anyway, I have been documenting this one
@ Oneshot.. I will post it there tomorrow. I promise.
I started by cutting my board

Then, I skinnned it with Sheet styrene (that I had pre-scored to simulate hull panels)

added some detail

started adding the base for the stand

added my commtech chips (yes, THOSE commtech chips)

added some pipes (along with other greeblies)

added my shaver foils

and some pieces to raise it up

side-by side, this ones slightly larger
