Fallout 3 - Capital Wastelands Merenaries

CAPITAL WASTELANDS MERCENARIES
Well I've been meaning to hold off and post these when I had my whole group done but after viewing AngelKing's Vault Dweller 2.0 Vault Warrior 2.0 I decided to go ahead and post the two figures that I've completed so far.
My goal on these two figures were to showcase the harden mercs that you randomly encountered during the game, either out in the Wastelands or in the various towns or ruins of the Washington DC. Sadly many had fallen and you stumble upon more corpses then you do do actually live, breathing, shooting mercs in downtown DC. However I wanted to stay true to the original source material and outfits shown in the game, so with the help of The Vault: Fallout Wikia The Vault, the Fallout wiki - Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas and more I choose two outfits that I wanted to do.
Here they are shown on the Lone Wanderer during the game:

However since I wanted them to be random mercs and not the Lone Wanderer I decided not to make the Pip-Boy 3000 (that is currently underconstruction for my Lone Wanderer at the moment). Here are my two Capital Wastelands Mercs having use the above photos as a guide.

KAREN

Karen was probably the hardest of the two to do since the Merc Charmer outfit was the most difficult out of the five Merc Outfits but the one that I really wanted to do the most. The jacket or blouse started life off as a Barbie fashion thigh length coat that was fastened with waist belt. The jacket was cut in length and then hemmed. The skirit also started off life as a black pleather skirit. Once I tested fitted the items and was happy, I then proceeded to color match them utilizing model car spray paint and then weathered with black, brown, and gray. The belt, which was a Soldier Story MACVSOG web belt, was painted and weathered the same way. The jacket was closes by adding a piece of cloth on the inside and then gluing it to the other side thuse closing the jacket.
The little thingie' on her left arm was just a plastic washer that I found in the work area and painted to match those on the reference pics. The sweat, arm rags were just some random pieces of cloth I found. Boots were an old set of DML WWII US overboots that I sprayed painted brown to mimic dust and added some ZC Girl belts for fasteners. The stockings are just plain Cy Girl ones that I've had for the longest of times. The weapon I chose was a DML German Sturmgewehr 44 with extras added to it to give it that retro-50s look that Fallout maintains.
DASH

Dash was a lot less work but still a royal pain, most notably the sweater. I had a Ken fashion brown sweater that I figured would be perfect for the sweater of the Merc Adventure Outfit so that is how I settled on that one was my second outfit. My first attempt to change the sweater's color from brown to a maroon type color was to dye it with Rit and it came out great. The problem started when washing the excessive dye off the color washed out completely. Undaunted I tried again with the same results, so I decided to use a Latex spray paint instead with great results that matched the color almost perfectly. The rest of the outfit was simple. The jacket was a wasit length black pleather jacket that I picked up on Ebay and the pants was a pair of brown pleather pants that I got off a trade. Utilizing dull spray paint, I dulled out the shiny finish to the jacket and then coated the pants, but only lightly since I wanted to show that they've used used extensively in the Wastelands and were starting to show the wear and tear associated with leather products.
The jacket's shelves were removed and small buttons that I cut off DML German trousers were added to the sweater. The bandolier was a combination of various DML US WWII ammo pouches that were painted brown and attached to a strap of leather that I used for the bandolier. NOT PICTURED: the belt hook and fastener that I used on the rear of the figure for the bandolier. Boots were Newline Minitures British Modern Combat boots that were scuff up with sandpaper and the weapon was a repainted DML G3 rifle (which was called an Assault Rifle in the game)
And there you have it, my two tribute to the mercanaries of the Capital Wasteland. I do have a few other Fallout figure in the works, most of which are staying true to the outfits shown in the game. Currently being assembled are a Female Raider in Raider Badlands Armor, my Lone Wanderer from the game, and Cherry in Sexy Nightwear from Dukov's Place. Also for custom figures is a Wandering Preacher (like the Book of Eli and wanted to combine what I saw into the world of Fallout). Not sure when these are going to be done since the above figures were completed during the summer so hope you enjoy Karen and Dash and I hope it might inspire some of you to go ahead and make some of your own Fallout characters.

Re: Fallout 3 - Capital Wastelands Merenaries
Dude!!! Those are awesome! Those are two of my favorite outfits too. That's Merc Charmer and Merc Adventurer right?
You did a brilliant job. I didn't stick precisely to source material because I want to have less limitations. Thanks for posting these!
I edited my post because I wanted to post again... You also did a great job with painting the G3. I tried my hand at that and screwed it up but I weathered it so it looked okay. You really did some amazing work with these two.

So, who will build a Advanced Power Armor Mk II in 1/6 next?

Try using Tamyira's 'Wood' Paint, two coats, and when still tacky, rub in your choose of brown to get the desire 'wood effect'.

Seeing your kitbash, it hurts me deeply that I'm far away from my gaming rig and Fallout 3. Oh the pain I suffered while waiting for the next semester break! ;_;

It's always great when some hard work turns out looking like this! I'd love to see these two in an outdoor photo shoot. They are both pretty darn nice! What headsculpts did you use for Karen and Nate?

Dash's HS was DML's Brandon Chase, 7th Naval Beach Bn, Omaha Beach
Karen's was a ZC Girl that I sent off for a hair reroot and repaint commission. That was over a year ago and can't remember who it was. All I remember he lives in S. Korea.

Re: Fallout 3 - Capital Wastelands Merenaries
Spot on! I like the spike of post-apocalypse we're getting on OSW. My favorite "outfit" in the game is probably the Chinese Stealth Suit, but that'd be one hell of a PITA to put together.

Re: Fallout 3 - Capital Wastelands Merenaries
I'm painting my R/C avalanche post apocalyptic as we speak. I still very much like these two figures.
The few details you took liberties on turned out so flawless looking such as the STG 44
