New from Triad Toys: "Grave Danger" diorama base
This is incredible looking and unlike the issues with the EVO & EVA
getting released, Louie said these are in production now with no
problems and should be in soon. This is a perfect for my Selene figure.
What do you think people?? I could see many war apps here as well with
it's removable parts.
Triad Toys is proud to continue its highly detailed 1/6 scale display environments with the Grave Danger Triarama.
Casted in high density polystone, the Grave Danger Triarama depicts a graveyard backdrop, with detachable backwall
and tombstone. Hand-sculpted and finished, the base stands roughly 14 inches high.
Limited to only 300 pieces worldwide.

Re: Triads new Grave Danger dio
Probably the first mass produced base/diorama I will buy. Looks pretty sweet and the customization possibilities are promising.

If it was more in the $30-35 range maybe... It's not as bad as Sideshow's diorama's but that's still way overpriced for a couple slabs of molded plastic. Nice sculpting, but no...

Not to trivialize the material...polystone is still better overall than PVC or some other plastics when it comes to holding detail (though more brittle), but it is still just plastic. They aren't hand carved from stone.

Polystone
Polystone is the common name for Polyethylene, just another plastic. But there are two main types, High and Low Density. High density is used for the figurines. Polystone offers good resistance to moisture, impact, heat, sunlight, cold and has good rigidity. I mean good compared to PVC. Everything here is compared to PVC.
Polystone distorts of about 80 degrees Celsius. It is not that ductile, lighter than water, and can be moulded, machined, and joined together using welding (difficult to glue). It’s a thermoplastic as well, meaning it can be heated and reshaped and cooled. This is easy to mould and rather durable. The higher heat resistance and rigidity also means figurines do not lean or distort, or worse, start degrading in sunlight. But for this added quality, polystone figurines are more expensive than PVC ones and the selection is a lot less.
Unlike PVC which is more ductile, Polystone does BREAK because of the higher rigidity. So shipping overseas is a bit more of a risk for these. Use EMS at all costs.
And yes, it’s also known as polyethene, the plastic bag. So people who have been fooled by the fancy name, please hang your head in shame.

Re: New from Triad Toys: "Grave Danger" diorama base
uhm, what's your point again?
i just know that anything polystone is expensive. gentle giant busts in 1/6 scale are around 50-60. sideshow's bases are 90+ and PFs are $300. i'm just happy as hell we're seeing something remotely different and at a halfway decent pricepoint is all ima sayin

My point is that Polystone is actually not real expensive... you ever been to a dollar store and seen the junky little statues they have there? Some are polystone resin. Now granted there are different varieties and some more costly to produce than others. However, Triad's first diorama is on their site for 29.99. It's a combination of ABS and polystone resin. I don't see this new one being far more intricate than that one. Honestly I think the first one has more detail.
I think it's cool, I just think the price is too high for what it is. That's the original point I was making.
On a related subject... did they ever release the gothic rooftop diorama with the lights? I saw pictures long ago, but don't know if it ever came out. THAT looked pretty sweet... it kinda fits in with the new line they have, so maybe we'll see it again.

The original to be fair is also like... 5 years old or more. Not saying the price is totally justified, doesn't seem that bad to me.

Re: New from Triad Toys: "Grave Danger" diorama base
Well let's add up the parts.
Polyresin stone border pieces from Menards $5.00 to $7.00 lets say $6.00
Head stone from Dollar Tree $1.00
Apoxie Clay $8.50
Paint & foamcard base $5.00?
Total $20.50
$50.00 profit?
I have to agree with IOT. The price is over the mark.

I could only find unpainted resin model kits on Monsters in Motion, but if they do have painted dioramas for this price, then I'd love to check them out. Any links? Maybe I'm not using the right keywords. The only painted and assembled environment I found there was the Black Sunday chapel and that was $325.

Re: New from Triad Toys: "Grave Danger" diorama base
Awesomely excellent!! That is a very nice piece of work. Louie has given us a diorama for hobbyists and fans to bury there hopes and dreams of actually getting the stuff they pre ordered from Triad sooooooo very long ago.
That's very thoughtful.

We get it, you don't like Triad because you ordered something and the
release date was pushed back...yada yada yada.
This post is not a Triad Flaming session.
This is for people who like Triad, if you want to flame, start you're own
hater triad thread and flame all you want. But I'd appriciate you not
flaming all the threads that people put up about Triad just because
of your personal issues with them.
Thanks again in advance...

Re: New from Triad Toys: "Grave Danger" diorama base
I remember seeing a very realistic tree and grass dio base not long ago here on OSW, I think it will look good if I set up a sniper hide behind the tree, I did not get that set yet may be for the same reason of being over price or availability.
In my opinion a dio base should cost around $30 at the most, there is no way I will pay same $ for a figure and a dio base.

With all due respect, I think Hardcase is entitled to share his comments.
Back on topic, the price point is still a little steep for me personally, but it's a very good looking piece. Triad once displayed a different church rooftop diorama piece that I'd wish they produced. I think the concept was to connect 4 of them together and you had a total rooftop. Very cool with multiple applications.

You sir are an optimist. It is a cool looking piece.

I would love some roof-top dioramas, Churches in particular have great roofs, so that sounds awesome.
