Phantom of the Jungle : Australian SAS in Vietnam

This is my version of a trooper of the SASR in Vietnam, ca 1970-71.
It was inspired by several contemporary pictures and Osprey illustrations.

    Breakdown of parts :

HS : Toy Soldier, with real cam cream (thanks Al/Spanner28 for the tip)
    Body : DML
    Gloved hands : BBI
    Beret : TS
    ERDL uniform : DML
    Scarf : BBI
    J-boots : TS
Equipment : part TS modified, part DML modified, part scratchbuilt; Hot Toys ARVN rucksack
    SLR : DML modified

Comments and critics are welcome, as always.

    Cheers

    Eric

    Outstanding figure!!!

The custom and camo'ed webbing and rifle, real face camo and the weathering are what make this figure shine! It looks like he has a water bladder stuffed down his shirt too - nice touch.

Great stuff, the SASR was a favorite reading subject for me this summer. I had a buddy that was with them and that peaked my interest. This figure catches the subject perfectly, very well done.

I was wondering when someone was going to do a NAM SAS. I have seen a few PICs of them here are there. This is one of the figures that is on my list to make, I just have not got around to it yet.

Wonderful Custom and very nicely done. Way cool!

BTW Eric, Tony Barton has some white metal 30-round SLR mags that fit the Armoury SLR. I'm not sure if they'll fit the DML one.

That is just fantastic. Great weathering, and the camo application is top-notch, IMHO.

Nicely done. Good to remind people that others were involved there.

Re: Phantom of the Jungle : Australian SAS in Vietnam

Swap the US woodland camo for the Tiger camo used on the beret and it would be perfect.
Also see if you can find a silenced Sten gun.

Why do you say that, most of the cams worn by SASR were US ERDL as shown here? Tigers were worn but are rare compared to the ERDL which were officially supplied.
I'd have to say that that particular figure is exceptionally accurate and extremely well researched. I'd also assume you meant Silenced Sterling as the Sten Mk IIS had long been retired. The L34 Sterlings were carried occassionaly but not usually as a primary weapon.
    Cheers
