Thanks guys! I need to use the airbrush for the rest of the black primer and the US Army green but the compressor is a bit noisy to use during the night, I wonder if I can muffle it a bit without blocking the air intake.... any way I've got the rest of the vinyl wrap to do and a whole lot of masking on the already primered parts to create.

Added final detail stuff and securing bolts here and there, then removed a few parts I didn't want painted as the paint would just crack off and they are already the correct colours anyway. Sprayed the backpack and tertials etc.. with black primer, also done most of one wing's superstructure. Been doing plenty more carbon fibre wrapping too. The shoulder armatures are now screwed in place but due to their joints they move with the wings in any position the wings can do.

    Play: Spot the added details!

This is around the stage where the rest of us get ourselves to "Ohhhh, now I see where he's going with that," while you, no doubt, have had greater awareness of that planned final design which we in the peanut gallery couldn't fully grasp yet. The step of base painting and finishing pulls our vision of the thing together -- it really makes the thing coherent. And big. And impressive.

Do the spraying when the builders are in, nobody will notice the noise then.

Spraying during the day isn't an issue, it's only a baby electric compressor for an airbrush not my large one for tools etc.. it's just I tend to work through the night often. It's a bit moot right now as that bloody vallejo primer doesn't like to be watered down so I'm having to brush it on neat/undiluted, seems to work okay that way. The US Army green is for airbrushes though so I'll need to do that during the day.

That's odd, I thin mine with Lifecolor thinner and it goes on just fine, maybe you should try it, or Scale 75 do a nice primer that doesn't need thinning and gives a really nice finish.

Yeah there's special airbrush thinners out there that I haven't tried yet, I guess they would work better than water, with water non specialised airbrush acrylics just land on the surface like dew or condensation where as the "Air" paint line cover perfectly with no beading at all.

Well he's here and still boxed, savouring it a bit and got a lot of painting to do too! I'll do a separate thread on him, sort of an unboxing and comparison to other IM figures and large ones in 1/6, I don't think this forum has one yet on the IM HB except for a link to Michael Crawford's review. But here's a teaser for you next to the Titan 12" MKXLVI figure on it's stand .

Looks like Christmas has come early for you then, I was going to ask about it, but I don't need to now. Hope to see a post soon.

Airbrush thinners and regular acrylic thinners are different as far as I know, but, then again I've never bought airbrush paints as I don't own an airbrush. I just find what works and stick with it.

Er... it's got about a million different moving parts with a truck load of gimmicks and posability!! I don't even know where to begin having fun with it, unless you were referring to the box only in which case I'd probably agree at this age.

Well I've collected various small pieces of furniture in disrepair from my street with him in mind over the last year or so, I plan to build him a plinth of sorts out of that and have that in front of my IM collection. I still haven't unboxed him completely as the bloody scafolders were next door in full force today throwing heavy steel polls into a steel truck bed non stop from 8:30 until 17:30, drove me barking mad (you'll find a video I uploaded on FB of me unloading three magazines with my Desert Eagle and a lot of angst into a beer can! ). Anyway me having anxiety issues and practically clinging to the ceiling like a startled cat (with a gun lol) didn't seem the best way to enjoy unboxing my dream figure I've coveted for three years! I wanted to do it in daylight to take proper pics but might have to settle for night time instead.
I got a lot done on the Vulture though even in the middle of a war zone.. painting all the black primer on all those intricate feather pieces takes many, many hours though, knackering too as I have to keep the parts held up in the air constantly while bits of them dry and I continue to paint other areas.. Got the new fans that come with actual usable brackets! I'll need to rewire everything as they were 3 fans set up in series rather than 2 in parallel which is the configuration I actually need; more carbon fibre wrap done too.

Only got this far with the IM HB, perhaps I subconsciously don't want my holy grail quest to be over?

Compliments on doing anything at all on the Vulture with the HB competing for attention. Of course now we're all thinking that a custom Vulture vs HT HB photoshoot would be seriously epic.

That's a hell of a piece! Hours of fun too I don't doubt. I'd have to not eat for a few months even to get one next year! That's the scary bit, with no money going in and a lump sum up front I really have to keep an eye on what is going out. Not sure what I'll have left after rent and utilities are taken care of every month. All the fun to come!

Yup and heavy too!! Okay 10kg is a hell of a lot for a 1/6 scale figure but not very much IRL, I think the reviewers that tell you to get your friends over to help you pose him (grown men obviously at this price) must be serious weaklings and I'm not targeting anyone in particular and some Asian reviewers may be quite a bit smaller than us western grunts/ogres but some of the US guys have no excuse!.
Yes it certainly is no disappointment when you open the box (except all my batteries are missing!) as he doesn't "shrink" visually like most figures out of a fancy HT box set.
Great idea on the Hulkbuster v Vulture photoshoot aside from the fact it will be bloody hard work! Gotta do it now though as you've sown the seed of an idea in my brain!

I've got some serious Deja vu going on with this figure, I wonder why? Seriously it's exactly the mechanisms and engineering I used to make my Punisher MECH except I don't have to remove parts and mine's arms allow the figure's arms to be inserted and articulated, oh and mine has loads more articulation...blah..blahblah..blah..(YES YOU WILL SUFFER NO END OF THESE COMPARISONS AND HOW I ALONE CAUSED THE WHOLE HULKBUSTER DELAY...) ...
As far as rent worries just get something big and cheap in a crap area so you can have space to work on and display your projects/figures with money left over to buy them!

Crap area means crap neighbours, the crap parts of Norwich are full of chavs and I don't want them knowing I've got stuff worth nicking! I'll work something out.

I'd forgotten about the Punisher Mech thing you did.

Well, you kind of started that thought by introducing the Hulkbuster into your Vulture thread. The other difficulty may be that we'd be rooting for the villain, since a) the Vulture is probably the less powerful underdog in that fight, and b) the hard-worked custom attracts more sympathy than the HT product. Given the size of both figures I imagine it would have to be shot in a season when you can work outdoors.

Re: Vulture From Spider-Man Homecoming WIP Started Painting Too..

Roger, you asked about how I will display the Hulkbuster, well fighting the Hulk which I'll order this month hopefully then use these oven doors (stripped down to the very thick super tough glass) placed on this chrome rail/rack thingy I found outside too. I'll need to replace the bolts as they are bent and remove the wheels etc.. Then lay it on it's side, place the glass pieces on top (there are 3) and put the figures on the glass beating the crap out of each other! I can shine lights through the glass to under light them or build a street dio with rubble etc..
As for the Vulture I'm still wrapping feathers...

Never painted mine either! He's a bit small so got my eye on a new in the box AOU basic Hot Toys Version, shame it's in Australia though! I've run out of carbon fibre wrap after completing only one wing! Guess I forgot I was doing both sides! . So that means I'll be using 300cmx60cm of wrap in total!! Done all the posability pics for the Hulkbuster but got more in depth than I thought I would so comparisons will be a 3rd part now.
This is the Hulk I'm after, great reviewer too, my favourite, normally does Transformers though but has a budding HT collection, he always does a fun little skit with the reviewed figures at the very end too:

He's 240quid altogether which is a good price for MIB, I think a lot of Chinese sellers establish businesses in Oz for tax/logistical reasons like the Japanese do too, so it will probably be sent from China anyway! Posing the HB yesterday in so many extreme positions has gone and sprained my shoulder and neck muscles on my left scapula which sucks as you now I'm left handed as are you.
Ordered more carbon fibre wrap and asked them to make sure it''s rolled properly this time as the last roll was like a concertina towards the end!

Yes it is money wise but price wise not so much if look at figures in that price bracket now by HT etc.. even DAM and other brands are up there too, the Hulk is easily twice the size and weight of those alone with a lot more paint aps for the veins and mottled skin etc.. plus he has an inner skeleton covered in rubbery plastic and PERS too.

Got the masking tape and airbrush out today, had a worried start when the US Army green wasn't sticking either but just shook the bottle some more and and readjusted the water to paint ratio, this seems to like less water than the metallics. Anyway got a few coats on in the spray booth, not done yet, there will be a heck of a lot of silver/copper detailing to do afterwards too to get them looking something like the pics below.

Man that was a lot of spraying!! Think I used about a pint's worth of diluted army green!! Seems to have done the trick, finally finished with the airbrush for now and just removed all the masking. Held up pretty well, obviously I'll need to touch stuff up here and there but the basic black and green boundaries are there now. Black touch ups and silver detailing/weathering next...
