Comic Artist Michael Turner passes away at 37

For those of you who don't know, Mike was a superbly talented and popular comic book artist. He rose to fame doing a comic called Witchblade and his style influenced many young people coming into the industry.

After being diagnosed with bone cancer in 2000, Mike started his own comic book company called Aspen. There he did a book called Fathom and supplied cover to dozens of Marvel and DC books each year.

Mike's cancer went into remission years ago, but had recently come back. He succumbed to his illness Friday night.

As a person, Mike was always upbeat and friendly. With a tremendous work ethic and a very grounded attitude, you would never know Mike was ill or that he had the success most artist can only dream of. He was just a very, very cool guy.

I'm sorry that he had to leave us. He was way, way too young.

But as Billy Joel once said, right................................?

We know life ain't fair, but this kind of thing always sucks. I remember Witchblade, and in a perfect world, every page in a comic would be as good as his covers.

I met him when he was on the tour promoting the witch blade/tomb raider/fathom crossover years back and he was really nice. I took some of his early stuff to sign and he started laughing and telling stories about the work. I hate to hear this. I was hoping he was going to beat it finally. Why does the world keep the jerks and take the talented nice guys? Gonna miss him. Although I was starting to get the feeling that the big two were over doing it with his covers. I loved his interior work more.

God I hate to hear this. This is the first news I received, and I was shocked to read it.

Truly a shame...

Ive known his comics, this really is a loss. Rest in Peace Mike. He probably wont go to heave for a while, he'll stay down here and be the inspiration for aspiring comic book artists.

Man,that is some shitty news.

I remember hs first works and the subsequent works on Withcblade,Tomb Raider and Fathom among others.I remember hearing abut the cancer when he was first dignosed with it.I never knew it had returned since I don't really pay attention to comics much anymore.

I did meet Mike on the tour he did to promote the Tomb Raider/Witchblade/Fathom crossover. He was an excellent person in light of the pain he was going through.

Godspeed Mike Turner,Godspeed

A great loss indeed. The way he drew Supergirl was beyond reproach.

R.I.P. Sad news. His art is the reason I dabbled in comics again after giving them up several years ago.

One of the saddest days for comic-dom. He was so young and had so much ahead of him. Turner is one of the true superstars of this medium and I am truely sad to see him go.
