New 1:6th Scale DOCTOR WHO Figures
BIG Chief Studios announces that they have acquired the Doctor Who license through BBC Worldwide. The collectibles company will be producing a range of 1:6 scale action figures in addition to 1:4 scale mixed media statues. The agreement includes rights for both classic Doctor Who episodes as well as the current series.
Initial product offerings will include detailed 1:6 scale versions of the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companion Amy Pond (Karen Gillan). Both figures will be fully articulated and will feature hand-painted character portraits, finely tailored costuming, signature accessories and themed display bases. To complete the first wave, other popular characters including Rory Williams and River Song will be released.
Key monsters and aliens from the hit TV series will also be released. Additionally themed 1:6 scale dioramas depicting the sets from the show will be introduced for collectors to create displays for their figures.
The "Definitive Edition" 1:4 scale mixed media statues will utilize a blend of non-articulated, pre-posed figurines with authentic character portraits, fabric costuming and themed display bases. Select statues will also include light-up display features.
BIG Chief will begin offering the first two character releases in Q4 2011, both direct to consumer via their dedicated website ( bigchiefstudios.co.uk) and through select hobby and specialist retailers. Stay tuned for future updates.

Awesome news! Now I hope they will release the fourth Doctor - Tom Baker and I will be all over it. Will try to get a phonebooth and Tardis though!

Definitely looking forward to this!
I'm not familiar with Big Chief, though -- anyone have any idea what their quality is like?

Re: New 1:6th Scale DOCTOR WHO Figures
It's incredibly hard to find work by Big Chief Studios. It seems their older site was scratched and they're still in the process of launching a new one.
Here's some of their older work I could find attributed to them:
Adam Warren Dirty Pair models
Raving Toy Maniac - The Latest News and Pictures from the World of Toys
The samples are from ~8 or so years ago and from job listing sites it seems they're looking for a sculptor/skin specialist.
I still hold out hope that these figures will look good but I suspect they make look like the Character Options series.

I'd love to see a Tom Baker figure.
But I swear this new Doctor looks like he can't be over 22.

Re: New 1:6th Scale DOCTOR WHO Figures
According to info posted by them on SSF (Sideshow Freaks boards), Big Chief Studios is a new company made up of long-time industry professionals. The reason you can't find any of their work is the Doctor stuff is their first license under this name. Also according to hints posted at SSF, the quality (and probably the price) is going to be more in the Hot Toys range, but I'm going to wait until there are more than just hints before I jump to any conclusions on that score.
I'm cautiously enthusiast about this announcement, but we've heard big talk about non-Character Options Doctor Who 1/6 before with very little to show for it. To some extent I can understand why Eleven would be the first figure since he is the current Doctor and all that, but I really hope they plan on doing a Tom Baker in the very near future because probably hands down the most wanted Doctor Who figure and fans are going to lose patience with the company if they put off production for too long.

That's a fairly decent sculpt but the paint apps are going to have to be a lot better than that.

The neck look a bit weird - but the head looks great, really looking forward to seeing the full figure previewed now.

Re: New 1:6th Scale DOCTOR WHO Figures
I read that Greggo over at SSF sculpted the head and that Kato is doing the clothes.
If this is true, we will be getting some awesome figures.

Re: New 1:6th Scale DOCTOR WHO Figures
Greggo painted the head, but so far there hasn't been any word on who actually sculpted it. The Kato thing about the clothes was a joke from someone trying to be funny. We don't know yet what outfit the Doctor will have or what it will look like.

Re: New 1:6th Scale DOCTOR WHO Figures
Finally some quality Doctor Who figures, I'm very excited about this. The headsculpt looks very promising, hopefully they have good bodies to pose them on. So many possible characters to be done here, even if they just do this and recent doctors & companions. Would love to see a line that covers the previous 10 Doctors (keeping fingers crossed for Tom Baker with Sarah Jane Smith & K9 and Davros) and of course a Light Up TARDIS (with sound) and TARDIS console.....I know to much to ask or hope for. I shall be watching this closely, thanks for this great info.

I really hope they do go and look at some of the classic characters like the 3rd,4th and 6th Doctors and of course Delgado and Ainley's The Master.

I signed up on Big Chief's website to receive Email updates - when filling in your details one of the questions they asked was which other Dr Who characters would you like to see made.

That's great info, thank you so much for sharing that, now other Dr Who fans can at least try to have a voice in what we would like to see.

Re: New 1:6th Scale DOCTOR WHO Figures
Just announced-
Our development team are busily working to complete the numerous components that make up our first figure - the Eleventh Doctor as portrayed by Matt Smith.
Whilst his costume is being finely tailored, tweaked and adjusted to create the perfect fit, our designers have been working hard on the accessories that will accompany the Doctor.
We can confirm the following accessories that are planned:
Eleventh Doctor Accessories
1x Sonic Screwdriver (Closed)
1x Sonic Screwdriver (Open)
1x Psychic Paper Wallet
1x Nano Recorder Gun
1x Lash Up device
1x Time Lord Consciousness Cube
1x The Doctor's Invitation with Envelope
1x TARDIS Door Sign Fragment
1x The Doctor's Handkerchief
1x Watch
1x TARDIS Floor Base with Stand
6x Interchangeable Hands
Stay tuned for a few sneak peek images of the highly-detailed digital models that will form the masters from which the accessories will be manufactured.

Re: New 1:6th Scale DOCTOR WHO Figures
First Doctor Who episode I saw was "Blink" and IMHO is the best yet. So naturally I'd like to see the 10th Doctor (David Tennant) be made because he's the only one I've ever watched. I'd also like to see Sally Sparrow (Carey Mulligan) and the infamous "Weeping Angels" at a 1/6th scale.
