Trench raiding was a feature of trench warfare which developed during World War I. It was the practice of making small scale surprise attacks on enemy position. Raids were made by both sides in the conflict and always took place at night for reasons of stealth. Any attempt to raid a trench during daylight hours would have been pointless because it would have been quickly spotted: enemy machine gunners and snipers had a clear view of no man's land and could easily shoot anyone who showed their head above the trench parapet.
Typically, raids were carried out at night by small teams of men who would black up their faces with burnt cork before crossing the barbed wire and other debris of no man's land to infiltrate enemy trench systems. The distance between friendly and enemy front lines varied, but was generally several hundred metres.

Despite the fact that World War I was the first conflict to be fought by mechanized means, trench raiding was very similar to medieval warfare insofar as it was fought face-to-face with crude weaponry. Trench raiders were lightly equipped for stealthy, unimpeded movement. Typically, raiding parties were armed with deadly homemade trench raiding clubs, bayonets, trench knives, hatchets, pickaxe handles and brass knuckles. The choice of weaponry was deliberate: the raiders' intention was to kill or capture people quietly, without drawing attention to their activities. Clearly, this would have been impossible if they had routinely used firearms during raids. Trench raiders were also armed with more modern weapons such as pistols and hand grenades, though these were only intended to be used in an emergency i.e. if the enemy discovered their activities and raised the alarm.
Standard practice was to creep slowly up on the sentries guarding a small sector of an enemy front line trench (looking for the glow of cigarettes in the dark or listening for conversations) then kill them as quietly as possible. Having secured the trench the raiders would complete their mission objectives as quickly as possible, ideally within several minutes. Raiders were aware that the longer they stayed in the trench, the greater the likelihood of enemy reinforcements arriving. Grenades would be thrown into dugouts where enemy troops were sleeping before the raiders left the enemy lines to return to their own.

A while ago sideshow released a figure based on GTA III's protagonist "claude". Being a huge fan of the game I picked one up and decided to bash another character from the series (I think he a had some missions in Liberty City Stories and GTA Advance). Anyway, this is the result:




The head sculpt is off one of the sideshow G.I Joe figures with a a slight re-paint

I'm a fan of old sci fi and horror but I also love the classic noir films...Bogie, Bacall....crazy about em. Bogarts head is courtesy of HeroHeads...the sculpt looks great. I decided to go with a silver screen approach and painted it in shades of grey. He sits atop a donor dragon bod. Suit, shirt and tie I made. The suit was tough, theres not a lot of pattern material out there that I could find. Particularly since we're talking about a 40's cut double breasted suit. I'm not 100% thrilled with the outcome, but it was time to move on. Maybe I'll revisit it some other time.

First up, whats a Captain without a his command chair. This project has been on the table for a year or two...waiting for the right fabric to simulate the sheen of the black leather upholstery. I finally found something the right texture and weight so this dormant project made its way back on the front burner.





Now whats a science officer to do on an away mission without his trusty tricorder. Styrene makes up the majority of material in the tricorder. It doesn't only look good...it opens up too for full functionality, okay, as much functionality that a 1/6th Spock needs anyway.

I took a 2" section of 1.5" wide masking tape and stuck it on the back of the buckle with the buckle centered on the tape. Then I opened the buckle and put one end of the strap into the buckle. Then I closed the buckle and pressed the tape to the back side of the strap. I repeated this for all 4 straps. When all 4 straps were secured in the buckle I removed the masking tape, and voila no more struggleing to keep the strap ends in the buckle while you added each strap end..... worked like a charm.....
