anyone else get this from eBay?
just curious since there was just a thread asking for eBay names
got this today from eBay
Hello mr_petey
Your eBay account has been temporarily locked because it appears that someone used your account without your permission.
We've taken steps to secure your account. If your account was used in any unauthorized activity, such as listing, buying, or selling, we've canceled the activity. Any associated fees have been credited to your account. We assure you that your credit card information is stored on a secure server and can't be seen by anyone.
The email address on your account may have been tampered with as well, which is why you probably didn't receive an email about the unauthorized activity. As a precaution, we recommend that you change the password on your personal email account (pawerner@att.net). This will verify that it's secure and can't be accessed by anyone else.
To unlock your account, please change your eBay sign-in password by following these steps:
1. Click the "Sign in" link at the top of the eBay home page.
2. Click the "I forgot my password" link.
3. Enter your eBay user ID on the following page and click "Continue"
4. Change your password using the instructions provided.
After signing in to your account with your new password, you may be asked to complete additional verification to prove you're the account owner. Please understand that this step is done for your protection, as we want to make sure you're the only one who has access to your eBay account.

Thanks for your understanding.
Sincerely,
eBay Customer Support

Or it could be a spam trying to get your info.

Spammers rarely have your Ebay ID and actual email address in the email. Plus they've told him to go to the real site, normally spammers actually ask for your info.

Should we notify the OSW police?
Frankly i like to think i am smarter than this. In fact it sounds like something I would warn my kids or my 83 year old mother-in-law against doing...

Re: anyone else get this from eBay?
Not tre. They can set a website to look exactly like EBAY's and then get all your info.It happens all the time.
Maybe Identity thieves is more of a correct term than Spammer

Yeah I know that, but in this instance, theres no link to a website, it just says to sign in on the ebay site.

Re: anyone else get this from eBay?
Happened to me before, but if you wanna make sure, just go to ebays website on your own and try to log in. If you get in, then it was just a spammer.

Re: anyone else get this from eBay?
I would log into EBAY and see if you get any messages in your EBAY message box.If not then report that email to EBAY.

Re: anyone else get this from eBay?
Think about it. Even if someone did get your Ebay User Name, the combinations for passwords is too many count (and unlike Chuck Norris I can't count that high). Even if they got your Ebay USer Name and Email Address they would still have to not get one but two passwords (that is if your not that person that uses the same word/phras/combination for everything) so even then he either has to hack into your email account and change the password to their choosing or attempt to place a Trojan Horse or Worm Virus onto your CPU to gather that information. To me that sounds a bit too time consuming just to get an Ebay Password when they could just concentrate on your PayPal Account instead.

Had plenty of these type of bogus emails before. Just delete. CorranJ is quite correct.

Re: anyone else get this from eBay?
yep I get that crap all the time. Funny how I can always log into ny account and never have any messages in my Ebay account inbox. Phishing at it's best.

Re: anyone else get this from eBay?
If you're not certain, just forward the e-mail to "spoof@ebay.com" -- they'll let you know whether or not it's legit...

Re: anyone else get this from eBay?
You've alredy gotten some great advice. Something else you can do is right click on the e-mail addres and click properties. Oftentimes the e-mail address listed on the e-mail is whatever the sender entered. When you go to properties you get the actual return address. I've seen a lot of scammers from a hotmail or other account.

Re: anyone else get this from eBay?
Dump the email, go to eBay and login...you should be okay or you'll have a message from them stating otherwise-

Re: anyone else get this from eBay?
It's best to deal with this thru ebay channels. Situations outside OSW are special cases for staff, very limited. Due to the rare nature of those operations, we do require that you be prepared to enter a WitPro program, and that you fully realize the lethal nature of said operations.
