Perhaps it has somthing to do with what the German Military and Police units requested when they asked for a new Assualt Rifle... When the Military asks for certian modifications, they will often listen, as HK knows theres lots of money to be had if the military gets somthing they want, and buys it...

If you notice, the g36 and xm8 are the same weapon essentially, However the "american" xm8 has a sliding stock... Why? Obviously the U.S. Military thinks sliding/adjustable stocks are the better way to go. The German Army obviously feels different about this....

That is my best guess...

Some other things

It also depends on why you want a Sliding stock. The Sliding stocks on M4's are adjustable... on Hk rifles, the stocks are not adjustable... Also, they are not too comfortable, espically in 7.62, 5.56 is ok though...

When you hit some one with a Folding stock, it is a bit stronger, there is still a chance that a sliding stock can colapse... Or atleast thats what i think, never tried it though....

Also, with my expierence, The Hk sliding stock isnt the smoothest thing in operation... We had an Hk 93, and 91 (33 and g3 basically) and the stock didnt just pop out and back in. Theres is a bit of resistance and you have to fumble with it.... These guns WERE NOT beat to crap/poorley taken care of... Also, like i said, its not too comfortable, to me atleast....
